Goalkeeper Marie Hourihan joined City in December 2015 from FA Women's Super League champions, Chelsea Ladies.

Having previously plied her trade at Watford, Fulham, Doncaster Belles and Birmingham - where she became number one - the shot-stopper joined the Staines outfit in 2013.

After finishing runners-up in the title race to Liverpool in the 2014 campaign, the 28-year-old helped her side to a league and cup double the following year, as Chelsea pipped City to the crown on the final day.

She came up against Nick Cushing's side four times in the 2014 season, watching on from the bench in 2015.

Hourihan admitted to receiving looks of surprise when telling of her move to Manchester but asserts she knew she wanted to join the Blues as soon as she arrived to look around.

She told the official website: "The massive progression the Club has made in the last two years and the infrastructure that's in place is second to none.

"I want to be a part of that and I'm so happy to be here."

Defending her decision to join a Club which boasts England's number one, Karen Bardsley, she added she is used to competition and is relishing the chance to prove her worth against the country's best.

When asked what she hopes to bring to the squad, she spoke of experience, knowledge and a positive attitude.

Her target for the 2016 campaign is to win another league title and help City progress as far as possible in all cup competitions.
